Green Tourism

Energy Saving
We have used energy saving bulbs in our properties where possible and encourage guests to conserve electricity. Where there is central heating we use energy-efficient boilers. Otherwise, we use efficient off-peak night storage heaters.

Much of the electricity at Trehill cottages is now supplied by Solar panels & from Spring 2014 most of its heating will be via a low carbon bio-fuel boiler.

Local Sourcing
We use local labour for construction, cleaning, maintenance and gardening. This not only helps the local economy but also cuts CO2 emissions by reducing distances travelled.

We have recommendations for local food suppliers in all our properties, so you cannot only buy the best fresh food there is but you can also help the environment and the local economy.

Other measures
To keep our ponds at Trehill filled up we use rainwater run off to save water. We are also looking at solar and wind generation but feel that the technology is not quite there yet.

Holiday Cottages in Cornwall and the Environment

At Holiday Cottages in Cornwall we are constantly working to lessen the impact our business has on the environment.

We promote recycling wherever possible in all of our properties.

At Trehill and Long Barn Cottages we have a bottle bank, a newspaper collection and will also recycle cardboard and plastic if you bag it up. Last year we recycled over 2 tonnes of material.

At Oakridge, there is bottle recycling only.

At Glendorgal Sands there is bottle, can and cardboard recycling.

We welcome suggestions from our guests and constantly seek new ways in which to lessen our environmental footprint, without compromising the quality of your holiday.
